FSU football hadn’t signed a high school quarterback since the 2017 recruiting cycle. FSU has now signed two on the same day.

FSU football departed from its lone quarterback commit last week and has already placed him with two the 2020 recruiting class.

Three-star quarterback Tate Rodemaker committed to Mike Norvel and FSU football Friday night and signed earlier Wednesday.

However, the big news was four-star QB and Louisville commit Chubba Purdy flipping from Louisville to the Noles late Wednesday afternoon.

Purdy is considered the No. 200 player nationally and the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He was recently received Arizona’s Player of the Year award too.

FSU fans were crazy excited when the news dropped Purdy was choosing to be a Nole.

Thoughts

This really is a big deal for Mike Norvell and staff as recruiting was one of the big questions marks coming from a non-power five program like Memphis.

However, he and the limited staff have done a great job of addressing needs like quarterback and securing the wide receiver commitments while adding an additional one Wednesday in Kentron Poitier.

FSU football recruiting had gotten stale for the Noles since a slew of commitments in July surrounding the last Saturday Night Live event.

The way the 2019 season played out on the field did the old staff no favors, but it’s great to see the new coaching staff seize some momentum early on.

The key will be to sustain it on the trails through National Signing Day in early February. They must attack the JUCO and transfer portal with reckless abandon to address their issues in the trenches. If they can do that somehow, the Noles could have a much better 2020 than some expect.
