FSU Football will be back in a bowl game for the first time since 2017 – and they will be spending the postseason somewhere they haven’t been in a while.

When it was confirmed that FSU football would be back in their rightful place in the postseason, locations across the country where mentioned where the Seminoles could be playing – from as close to Tampa two days before Christmas to as far away as spots like Detroit, Annapolis and even The Bronx in the days that followed.

There was one spot, however, that was not even mentioned until the moments before the Seminoles found out their bowl destination on Sunday – and wouldn’t you know it, that is where the Seminoles would end up going.

So, cue up the Johnny Cash and get your New Year’s decorations ready to go – because FSU football is going to be bowling this season in…El Paso, Texas as they will be playing in the Sun Bowl for the first time since the 1966 season.

Ummm…yay?

Okay, that last part was more sarcasm on my part, because the fact of the matter is that it isn’t shocking at all that the Seminoles should end this season playing the day before 2020 mercifully gets here in the west Texas town of El Paso after the past season that fans, players and alumni have gone through.

I mean, we didn’t even know that FSU football was going to be eligible for a bowl game until a win on November 16th – two weeks after former head coach Willie Taggart was fired 21 games into his career with the Seminoles and three weeks before future head coach Mike Norvell would be hired.

Yes, there still is the name and sexiness that FSU football brings to the table – but with a record of 18-19 over the last three seasons, do the Seminoles deserve a bigger named bowl game or location? The biased alum in me says yes, but the facts are that spending the holiday in El Paso is just the poetic ending to 2019 that we all need.

So now, the Seminoles get ready to play an Arizona State team they haven’t played since the 1984 season but have three straight wins over. If that doesn’t make you get excited for the bowl season…well, you’ll have a lot in common with people.

Look at it this way, fans of the Seminoles – the long nightmare that the 2019 season is going to be over in just a couple weeks.
