Final Thoughts

I don’t know, there’s just a lot of uncertainty with Matt Campbell for me. First of all, there’s the six million dollar buyout.

Yes, FSU can cover that amount but do you want to have to spend that money if you don’t have to by going after James Franklin or Brian Kelly?

Now, if neither of those two are available that changes things of course. The recruiting aspect is a big one for me too.

The FSU football logo carries weight no doubt, but how much weight does it carry with a guy from the Mid-West who’s never even fielded a top 25 recruiting class before?

I think opposing coaches from Clemson and Florida would have more success negatively recruiting someone like Campbell compared to either Franklin or Kelly because of their stature.

I know most of the time its common for folk to go the total opposite direction from the previous coach. Willie Taggart came to FSU with the reputation as a strong recruiter and Campbell has a reputation for being an X’s and O’s guy.

The old saying holds true. Jimmy and Joes win more games than X’s and O’s. Hiring Campbell could pay off in the long run but it would be a risky hire no doubt.
