Recruiting

I know folk believe FSU football will recruit itself and that’s true for the most part. However, how long would it take Matt Campbell to find his way in the southeast?

I know he’s recruited Florida before and has players from Florida on the Iowa State roster. He’s recruited decently at Iowa State considering it’s Iowa State and there’s not a large group of elite talent in that area.

However, he hasn’t really shown the ability to get better players even though he’s had success at Iowa State.

  • 2016-No. 55 overall ranked class (28 players)
  • 2017-No. 52 overall ranked class (26 players)
  • 2018-No. 55 overall ranked class (21 players)
  • 2019-No. 46 overall ranked class (23 players)
  • 2020-No. 38 overall ranked class (21 players)

That’s likely his ceiling and those rankings are largely due to taking rather large classes. Are recruits willing to buy his message? How would a Mid-West guy relate to the elite Florida kids?

That’s a big risk for a program that could take 1-2 years to be competitive with Clemson IF they get quality players in 2021-22.
