Experience

James Franklin has been a head coach at a power five school since taking the helm at Vanderbilt in 2011. He went 6-7 in his first year there before rattling off back-to-back nine win seasons.

That success brought Penn State calling to fix their program. Franklin went 7-6 in his first two seasons there before finally getting things going in 2016.

He’s gone on to win 11 wins that season as well as 2017. He won nine games in 2018 and already won nine games this season.

It appears he might have reached his ceiling at Penn State as they can’t seem to get over the hump with classes only ranked top 15.

FSU football will be a 2-3 year rebuild no question, and Franklin has proven he has the chops to get it done at places tougher to win at.

Unlike Willie Taggart, he’s done it at a Power 5 program with sustained success at both Vanderbilt and Penn State.

He’d be less risky to hire than Matt Campbell, Mike Norvell and Brian Kelly.
