FSU football: Football world reacts to firing of Willie Taggart
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has announced Willie Taggart has been relieved of his duties as head coach. The football world reacts to the news.
I wrote the writing was probably on the wall for Willie Taggart after the loss to Miami Saturday. I didn’t expect it to come this quickly, but FSU the FSU administration has seen enough.
The FSU fan base has seen enough too as less than 65,000 fans came to Doak Campbell Stadium for a rivalry game against Miami with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
They had a game earlier in the year against Louisville with less than 50,000 in attendance with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
A lot of FSU football fans have been calling for the move to be made as early as the Louisiana-Monroe game. It’s clear the FSU administration was between a rock and a hard place but felt they had to make the move now.
Taggart was 9-12 in his tenure at FSU while going 0-3 against Miami and Florida with another likely loss on the horizon to Florida.

I have been one of Willie Taggart’s biggest supporters and I can’t argue with the move to move on from him. I felt the program was making progress after the Louisville and NC State games, but the loss to Wake Forest and Miami are just too much of the same ole same ole.
Just dumb penalties, poor game management and what seems like just unorganized chaos when it comes to game planning and decision making. When a coach loses the fan base and folks stop showing up to games and contributing as boosters the decision is kinda made for them.
The interesting thing is how the FSU administration is going to move forward knowing they will have a new president and athletic director shortly.
Who are they going to be able to attract to this job? Hang tight FSU football fans, you got what you were asking for.
