FSU football relied on the player who is arguably the best on the team this season to save their hopes of making a bowl game at the end of this season.

With four games left in the regular season for the FSU football team and the Seminoles sitting with a 4-4 record at this point, there is still is a concern among the fan base that the men in garnet and gold might not make it to a bowl game for a second straight season – something that hasn’t taken place since the mid 1970s.

However, if the Noles do make it back to the postseason, they can thank the legs of running back Cam Akers – a man who has already dominated what he did during a disappointing 2018 season with a third of the season’s schedule to go – but they also need to thank the right arm of the former high school quarterback.

On the day this past Saturday for FSU Football, Akers finished with 144 yards on the ground over 20 carries – bring his total to 917 for the season, over 200 more than he had all of last year – and four more touchdowns to being his total to 12 scores on the ground this season.

Where Akers surprised a decent amount of people in the stands of Doak Campbell Stadium was a drive where he was the quarterback, completing two passes that was more than just the once in a while that we have seen him throw the ball at times during his first two and a half seasons in Tallahassee.

Now, I am not saying for a second that Akers should be getting consideration to be the quarterback of the future for the Seminoles – but there has to be an argument if you are head coach Willie Taggart and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles to get him the ball more.

After all, you want your best players to have the ball as often as possible – and there is no question that the man wearing No. 3 for the Seminoles is the best player in garnet and gold this season.
