FSU football has not lived up to even meager expectations in 2019. How much blame can ultimately be placed on Willie Taggart?

FSU football and Willie Taggart are in a touch predicament after the inexplicable loss to Wake Forest who was playing their backup quarterback Saturday night.

After the Louisville and NC State games it felt like this program was turning the corner a bit. The defense finally showed up after being absent the the first two games.

The offense was much improved over the previous year. There were still issues here and there, but for the most part it looked as though progress was being made.

The Clemson game was a game the Noles were not expected to win by any means. However, the expectation of being more competitive were there and realistic considering how Clemson had looked this year.

Of course, the game wasn’t competitive at all, so the expectation was the Noles would at least beat Wake Forest who they handled last year since they at least didn’t quit against Clemson the week before.

It was all set up for the Noles. Wake Forest had to play their backup quarterback, FSU is infinitely more talented and the Demon Deacons were not very good defensively.

Yet, the ‘Noles offense found a way to basically be shut down by a Wake Forest defense they had just given up 60+ points to Louisville the previous week.

FSU football fans are fed up with looking absolutely ridiculous each week and I can’t fault them. I wrote after the Virginia loss that Willie Taggart deserved a third year as long as the team didn’t self-implode during the second half of season.

I can’t guarantee that will not happen after the Wake Forest loss. I mean who’s to blame? Does it all fall on Willie Taggart? We’ve documented a lot of the issues he inherited and some of them are still handcuffing him like the APR issue.

He’s done some great things and made some necessary moves that have been fruitful as well. However, he’s also done himself no favors in a few areas too.

Let’s look at how much blame can actually be placed on Willie Taggart.
