Asante Samuel Jr.

The first player I want to highlight is sophomore cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. He’s probably been FSU’s best cover corner in a secondary that caught a lot of flack in the first three games of the season.

After five games he’s already surpassed his entire total of tackles from last season with 20, with 14 of them being solo stops.

He had a huge interception in the Virginia game and already has five passes defended. One problem area early on was Samuel Jr. looking to go for the kill shot hit instead of wrapping up on tackles.

He’d just bounce off and the opposing player would get crazy yards after the catch.

However, that’s an area he’s cleaned up in the past few games. He’s had tackle totals of eight, two and six in the last three games.

He’ll face a huge challenge as an undersized cornerback going up against Clemson’s huge wide receivers next week.
