It’s rare for a true freshman offensive lineman to start at a program like FSU football. However, Dontae “The Pope” Lucas is going to do just that as a former four-star recruit.

Lucas was able to early enroll in January and has done nothing but put in work since his arrival. He’s dropped a lot of bad weight and gotten stronger in the weight room.

In fact, he beat out a junior offensive guard Mike Arnold for the spot against Boise State.

All of his teammates love him and all of them say he’s nothing but dog on the field. That quality alone is going to help elevate the offensive line and make a huge impact.

I think he’s already showing leadership traits by his work ethic, and those leadership qualities will only command more respect the more experience he gathers.

He’ll have some mishaps as a true freshmen no question. I’m sure he’ll miss some assignments at times, but Lucas not coming to play ever snap is something that’s not going to happen.

He wants to dominate you and embarrass you on the field according to FSU football coaches and teammates.

That attitude to prove well for an offensive line that’s gotten pushed around the last few years.
