FSU Football: Marvin Wilson set to be leader for 2019 Seminoles
By Jason Parker
FSU football knows it’s going to need a big turnaround on defense from last season, and one of the leaders up front is ready to take on the responsibilities.
For as much as we have ripped the former administration that led the FSU football team into what took place last season, we will give them credit for one thing – they were able to bring in top recruiting classes when it comes to rankings that included some of the players that will be counted on during the 2019 season.
One of the biggest recruits, both physically and in the rankings, that was a part of the 2017 class was a defensive tackle from the Houston, Texas area named Marvin Wilson – a five star, mountain of a man who was expected and projected to do amazing things by the time he leaves Tallahassee.
Over the course of a 2018 season that didn’t go the way FSU football wanted, Wilson had a respectable season that saw him finish with 42 tackles – with career highs in the final two games of the season – and three and a half sacks, two of them coming in a regular season battle against rival Miami.

Heading into the 2019 season, Wilson is thought of to be one of the most important people on the defense for the Seminoles (heck, we ranked him as the most important entering the season earlier this week) – and the junior knows that and his ready to roll.
During ACC Kickoff last week, Wilson was one of the two representatives for the Seminoles and was quick to talk about what he has learned this offseason – and what his mindset is to be that leader the defense needs in 2019.
"“I’m not one of those guys that it’s my way or the highway. I’d rather say what I have to say, then whatever my teammates have to say after that, I listen to them. At the end of the day we (are) a team, we have to make everything work. What I really trying to work on is my mental aspect of the game, learning how to read formations…so when I am out there on the field I can think and react a lot faster on the field than I used to.”"
Wilson and the FSU football defense are going to be tested early in the opener by a Boise State team who, while they did lose their starting quarterback from last season, finished with the 19th ranked offense in all of the FBS who averaged over 400 yards in each of the games they played last season.
But, if the man wearing No. 21 is set to start the season they way he ended last year, the Seminoles should be just fine being led by the man in the middle.
