FSU football sees the name of one of the best to ever play for the program handed out each season to the top wide receiver – but no Seminole has won it yet.

When the history books are written about the FSU football program, there are going to be plenty for options of who will be the top four names at the top of the list – the Mount Rushmore, if you will – to define the most important people to ever put on a jersey or a headset and represented the Seminoles on the field.

One of the earliest options would be a wide receiver named Fred Biletnikoff – a man who was a legend in garnet and gold before heading on to a career with the Oakland Raiders that ended with Super Bowl championships, an induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and an award handed out yearly to the best college wide receiver.

Ironically, in the 25 seasons that the award has been handed out named after a FSU football legend, no Seminole has won the award – with the closet name being Randy Moss, who briefly played for the Noles but won the award in 1997 while playing for the Marshall Thundering Herd.

In the last quarter century, names like Peter Warrick, Ron Dugans, Willie Reid and recent names like Kelvin Benjamin have been scoring touchdowns and winning championships for the Seminoles – but not one of them has bee honored by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club as being the best in the game.

Could that change in the 2019 season? For many in garnet and gold, the answer is a hopeful yes.

Chances of that taking place have been amplified during the list of watch names for the upcoming season, with FSU football seeing sophomore wide receiver Tamorrion Terry being among the names listed for the award

Last season, the then freshman went for over 21 yards a catch on average during a season where he finished with 35 catches (eight of them being for touchdowns) for 744 yards to lead the Seminoles during a season that many would like to forget – but Terry hopes is just the beginning.

The biggest thing for Terry might be that his biggest game last season – five catches for a season high 142 yards and two touchdowns against N.C. State – came in the only action last season he saw with James Blackman at quarterback. With QB1 the likely starter at this point, the law of averages says his numbers should improve.

If that takes place, and FSU football becomes a team with nine or 10 wins by the end of the season, don’t be surprised to see history being made and the Biletnikoff Award staying in its rightful place – on the campus of Florida State University.
