Final Thoughts

Things are going to be better on the defensive side of the ball. Quite frankly, they have to be or it’s going to be another long season.

However, I feel confident in this unit for the most part. The only concern I have is where the pass rush is going to come from with the loss of Brian Burns to the NFL Draft.

I do think Barnett is going to try to make up for it with some exotic blitz packages in certain situations.

It was something the team struggled with last season as young linebackers and defensive backs were terrible and timing them.

Frankly, FSU was not in position to try those because they were losing in games so early and often.

The linebacker unit is deeper and more talented and same for the secondary with younger players biting at the bit to snatch playing time for upperclassmen.

They’ll be some growing pains with the younger players, but I’ll swap that for the passion and heart they exude on the field.

I don’t care to see upperclassmen laughing with rival players after getting blown out ever again.
