FSU Football: Top 5 Dark Horse Candidates for 2019
By Kelvin Hunt
Jaleel McRae
Some fans could be surprised to see Jaleel McRae on this list. However, a true freshman at linebacker is a true freshman.
McRae does have the benefit of having enrolled early so that experience in the spring, summer and fall will be invaluable.
McRae is someone who has impressed a great deal in the spring and has the size already to play linebacker in college.
He’s shown to be able to play in coverage and make splash plays behind the line of scrimmage which are two areas this unit has severely lacked since 2013.
McRae’s emergence is why most folk like myself feel the linebacker unit will be a strength instead of a liability in 2019.
It’s quite possible McRae could earn starter reps early if not the first game of the season with Leonard Warner’s move to linebacker.
I would not be surprised to see McRae have upwards of 50+ tackles for FSU football before the season is over.
