FSU Athletics have long been behind the times with the way things were structured with the Seminole Booster’s organization.

FSU Athletics will now be on the same playing field as other Power Five athletic programs.

FSU made the announcement and according to the Tallahassee Democrat the Seminole Boosters will now be under the Florida State University Athletics Association.

The significant change comes as FSU President John Thrasher, newly appointed Athletic Director David Coburn and Seminole Booster and CEO Andy Miller near retirement in the next couple of years.

Seminole Boosters acted independently of the FSU Athletics program which caused some strain regarding different issues in recent years. However, the restructuring of the two entities should streamline things and make it easier for new projects to get done in the future.

Thoughts

Obviously the restructure is good for the long haul regarding getting future projects done. It was a source of contention near the end of the old regime’s run as they though they had done enough to have more say so regarding the direction of the athletics program.

However, I can’t stress the importance of that last tweet above regarding whomever the new Athletic Director will be when David Coburn retires relatively soon.

Under the old structure I don’t think any proven Athletic Director would have taken the job because they would have been relatively powerless when it came to the Seminole Booster Organization.

Think of it as two teams of surgeons working on the same patient. Both have the same goal in helping the patient get well but are not communicating during the surgery. How would you think that surgery would go?

This is something that should have been changed years ago, but at least it’s better later than never.

Kudos to the FSU Administration in getting this done and now it’s time for the Noles to play with the big boys.
