Much like last weekend, FSU baseball relied on the home run to help them out in the first game of their Super Regional series against LSU on Saturday.

For the first half of Saturday’s super regional opener on the road, it appeared like the FSU baseball team was in big trouble as they faced off against the LSU Tigers – but with just two swings of the bat by one of their star outfielders. the Seminoles are now just one win away from heading back to Omaha and the College World Series.

Powered by two homers from sophomore Resse Albert – included a three run dinger that made things very interesting for the visitors, the Seminoles came back from being no hit halfway through the game to finish off with a 6-4 victory over the Tigers in front of a packed house of rowdy fans inside Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The story of how the FSU baseball team – which has now won five games in a row and now has won 40 games in every season under head coach Mike Martin – can be told pretty simply in two parts.

Part one would be the first five innings as the Seminoles could not get a hit off of either Tigers pitcher while LSU got a run in each inning over a four inning stretch to chase Noles starter Drew Parrish and make things somewhat worrisome for the garnet and gold.

After getting their first hit and first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning, the Seminoles struck gold in the seventh inning when the sophomore right fielder from Jupiter hit one out of the ballpark to tie the game at four runs each.

One inning later, it was the hero from last weekend that did the trick again as left fielder Tim Becker hit what turned out to be the game winning RBI on a sacrifice fly.

On the first pitch of the eighth inning, Albert again gave the fans a souvenir and eventually the FSU baseball team their record setting win.

The Seminoles got four and a third shutout innings from their bullpen that included two innings of work from closer J.C. Flowers to get within one game of their first trip back to the College World Series since the 2017 season.

FSU baseball will now rest until Sunday night when they return to Alex Box Stadium for game two of the series with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
