Malcolm Lamar-Defensive End/Tackle

Former four-star defensive end Malcolm Lamar is the wild card of the bunch. He came to the Noles as a defensive end and the No. 222 player and the No. 9 SDE in the 2018 class.

He has put on nearly 40 pounds since last year and weighed in at 287 pounds this spring.

The defensive end position is one of the spots with depth concerns as Joshua Kaindoh and Janarius Robinson are the most experienced of the bunch.

However, neither have shown great ability to get after the quarterback. I’m not sure Lamar will either as he more so fits the mold of former FSU defensive end Mario Edwards Jr.

He could be more of an edge setter against the run which would be valuable on this defensive line too.

It’s also possible Lamar has put on enough size to slide inside to the defensive tackle position.

He’s 6’5″ and 290 pounds and could help in the rotation alongside Marvin Wilson, Cory Durden and Robert Cooper. Those three are the most experienced defensive tackles on the squad with Wilson and Durden eligible to leave after this season.

It’s imperative the Noles establish depth here and at defensive end.
