Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

For the first time in the 40 seasons that Mike Martin has been the head coach of the FSU baseball team, the Seminoles took the field for the opener of the NCAA tournament as a number three seed – the lowest seed that the Noles have been since No. 11 took over the team starting with the 1980 campaign.

But, after a season that had plenty of people wondering if the Seminoles would even make the field of 64 teams, Martin’s group didn’t just make quick work of their first round foes – but also woke up the rest of the country that when they are playing at a certain level, there aren’t a lot of teams that can hang with the garnet and gold.

Now, the Seminoles get ready for a Saturday night showdown that – with a win – would put the Seminoles just one win away from making it back to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament and continue the final ride for their legendary dugout leader.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the first time in the history of their games against the Florida Atlantic Owls, the teams did not meet inside of Dick Howser Stadium – but that was about the only thing different as FSU baseball brought out the big bats to put up a season high for number of hits in a single game and announce their presence with authority.

The action started for the Seminoles in the second inning when they put five runs on the board – all of which came off of home runs from J.C. Flowers, Drew Mendoza and Tim Becker, who hit his first home run of the entire season. Mendoza and Becker, who grew up less than 30 minutes from FAU’s campus, would both hit another homer in the course of the game.

The 13 runs for the Seminoles were more than enough for starting pitcher Drew Parrish, who went five innings in the game while relief pitcher Antonio Velez went for three and a third innings to help the Noles get the upset victory.

Opponent Preview

Saturday night, the FSU baseball team will be taking on the host Georgia Bulldogs in a game that might be one of the better ones in the early round of games after both teams came out and did series work to start things off this weekend.

The host Bulldogs scored eight runs in the first inning of their opener against the Mercer Bears before coasting the rest of the way to a 13-3 victory.

Interesting Fact

This weekend sees the FSU baseball team playing in the regional round for the first time since the 2006 tournament – when the Seminoles went up to Athens, GA and took part in the event hosted by the Georgia Bulldogs, the same place they are this season.

In that year’s event, the Seminoles took out a Sunshine State foe in the opener (Jacksonville) before beating Georgia in the second game. That would be the end of the fun as the Bulldogs would come back from the loser’’s bracket and win two straight to eliminate the Noles.
