FSU softball could not overcome four errors in the course of their third and deciding game and will not have a chance to defend their 2018 national title.

On a very hot day in Tallahassee to start the holiday weekend, the FSU softball team found themselves in a must win situation – as the Seminoles hosted game three of their Super Regional knowing a win over Oklahoma State would send them back to the Womens College World Series and a loss would keep them home.

Thanks in major part to four errors in the game, the garnet and gold will be watching the final eight teams playing on television as the defending national champs dropped their deciding game 3-2 to the No. 13 seeded Cowgirls and will not get the chance to defend their 2018 national championship in Oklahoma City.

The action started with two runs in the third inning for Oklahoma State that came off a solo home run and a FSU softball error that put the garnet and gold in some trouble early on.

The Noles did not get on the board until the fifth inning when they put two runners on base before getting a single and having pinch runner Deja Bush beat the throw from the outfield to cut the deficit down to one run.

Oklahoma State got another run the following inning off of a sacrifice lead and took the two run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning – when Anna Shelnutt continued her postseason glory with a solo homer that got the deficit back down to one run.

But, that would be as close as the Seminoles would get to tying the game as the Cowgirls got the next three outs and went back to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since the 2011 season.

For the FSU softball team, the 2019 season comes to an end with a 55-10 record that saw them make it to the Super Regional round for the seventh straight season – a streak that is amazing considering the fact they have been to that level of the postseason just eight times in program history.
