Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

After 55 regular season games for the FSU baseball team, the second season starts this week for the Seminoles as they are one of 12 teams gathering in Durham, North Carolina for the latest addition of the annual ACC Tournament – and wondering if this might be the last college baseball in the long career of head coach Mike Martin.

With a 35-20 record entering this week’s events and having at least two games scheduled, the Seminoles have some confidence that they will make the field for the NCAA Tournament even with a letdown this upcoming week – but with a resume that has felt like a tossup to some, the Noles know a deep week in Durham will make things run smoother.

Of course, FSU baseball starts their action against a team they played well in the regular season before facing a scheduled team that helped to start their woes at a certain point this year. Here’s our preview of this weekend’s games between the Seminoles and their foes during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

Heading into this weekend’s regular season finale series against Louisville, the FSU baseball team had a shot at entering the ACC tournament as the top seeded team – and then watched as the Cardinals smoked that chance with 11 runs in the first two innings as part of a 14-1 blowout victory.

Friday night, the Seminoles got their chance at a little revenge as they scored five runs in the third inning and got three runs in the third inning – part of a two homer night for catcher Matheu Nelson to help push through a solid start from pitcher CJ Van Eyk as the Noles got 14 runs of their own in a 14-3 win.

Of course, the Seminoles left all their runs in the first two games of this series as they were shutout on Saturday in the regular season finale with the Cardinals scoring 11 runs and the Noles using six pitchers in the game, finishing the regular season as the sixth seed this weekend in Durham.

Opponent Preview

The Seminoles found themselves put into Pool C this week in Durham, as the No. 6 FSU baseball team will play two games at least – a showdown on Tuesday with a Wake Forest team they took two games from this season and a Friday night game against a N.C. State team they dropped two games from earlier this season.

The Demon Deacons enter Tuesday’s game with a record of 30-25 on the season, which was good enough to get seeded No. 10 this weekend and comes after losses in eight of the team’s last 13 games – including dropping to out of three games this past weekend against Clemson in the regular season finale.

Interesting Fact

It would be hard to argue with the fact that the FSU baseball team has been a dominating force when it comes to the ACC baseball tournament each of the last four times – losing just one of 16 games and winning three titles in the process with the loss coming in the 2016 title game to Clemson.

In fact, the Seminoles should have some confidence as they play Wake Forest after winning their last five first games in the annual postseason event – with the last loss coming in the 2013 tournament where the Noles dropped all three of the games they played that edition.
