FSU football had its worst recruiting class (on paper) since recruiting services started ranking recruits with its 2019 recruiting class.

Make no mistake, FSU football was poised to have a monster recruiting class going into Willie Taggart’s first season.

They had the No. 1 class at one point and were in the mix for a lot of elite players before the worst season in over 40 years derailed it all.

Nevertheless, the players the ‘Noles staff did get to commit stuck with it because they believed in the message Willie Taggart was sharing.

The Noles had one top 100 player to sign in Akeem Dent and had another in Nick Cross before his parents decided he needed to go elsewhere.

I wrote about how the best thing about the 2019 recruiting class was the fact the players wanted to be at FSU and help turn things around.

However, what we’re finding out is this class contains a lot of players that excel at other sports and are winning at a high level.

Four-star linebacker signee Kalen DeLoach led his track team to a state title while running the anchor leg of the 4X100 and almost won a state title in another event.

Four-star defensive back Travis Jay led his football AND basketball teams to state titles.

There were other signees in the class that participated in other sports besides football and did well.

This class didn’t contain a lot of what I’d call elite players, but it is full of players that come from a culture of winning which is something sorely needed in Tallahassee.

It really has become a brotherhood for this class as these players are congratulating players who are committing to FSU in the 2020 class and most of them haven’t graduated high school yet.

This class may go down as the lowest ranked on paper, but it very well could be the class that helped turn everything around for Willie Taggart in Tallahassee.
