FSU Softball looks to defend ACC Championship title

FSU softball looks to continue their dominance. The team finished the regular season on a roll and earned the No. 2 overall seed in the ACC Championships.
FSU softball (48-8, 19-5 ACC) will look to defend their ACC Championship Tournament crown Thursday as they take on No. 7 seed Georgia Tech at 5 p.m.
It’ll be in front the ‘Noles home crowd as they’re hosting the tournament for the first time since 2013.
The Yellow Jackets shutout No. 10 Virginia in the opening round of the tournament Wednesday for the chance to play the Noles.
The two teams didn’t play during the regular season, but Georgia Tech finished tied for third in the ACC Coastal with a (11-13) conference record.
If the Noles best Georgia Tech they’ll move to the semifinals where they’ll play the winner of No. 3 seed Notre Dame and No. 6 seed Duke.
FSU softball won two of three games against Notre Dame earlier in the season and swept Duke at the end of April.
The ladies have been swinging hot bats of late and their pitching as been great. The offense scored 31 runs in his regular season finale against Syracuse. FSU’s pitching has surrendered just 10 runs in its last 10 games.
They should be favorites to make the ACC Championship game with hopefully the chance to face No. 1 seed Virginia Tech.
The Hokies finished one game ahead of the Noles in conference play with FSU softball having the better overall record.
The two teams didn’t meet in the regular season, but FSU softball played the tougher non-conference schedule.
Virginia Tech also didn’t have to face Notre Dame who finished No. 2 in the ACC Atlantic Division behind FSU.
The Hokies will have to face No. 8 NC State Thursday and if they win either No. 4 North Carolina/No. 5 Louisville to reach the championship game.
Both North Carolina and Louisville took series wins against the Noles in the regular season. So either they’ll be looking for revenge in the finals or looking to take out the No. 1 seed who didn’t have to play anyone in the regular season.
