FSU Baseball got within one run, but couldn’t close things out as the Demon Deacons avoid getting swept in the Sunday series finale against the Seminoles.

After a middle of the season streak that saw the FSU baseball team playing some of the worst baseball in the entire college game at one point, the Seminoles entered Sunday playing some of the hottest baseball in the game that included series wins the previous two weekends against ACC foes Clemson and Virginia.

After getting two wins to start the weekend series against Wake Forest inside of Dick Howser Stadium, the Seminoles found themselves struggling to catch up at points – and despite getting within one run of tying the game, couldn’t finish the job and dropped the series finale 16-12 against the Demon Deacons.

In a marathon game that lasted over four and a half hours before coming to an end, FSU baseball found themselves down big early after giving up four runs to the Demon Deacons in the third inning before chipping way at the lead – coming within one run after a Robby Martin homer in the bottom of the fifth.

After Wake Forest put up four runs to start the sixth inning, the Seminoles did their job and came back with – you guessed it, four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning that included a two RBI single from Nico Baldor that once again cut the deficit for FSU baseball back down to just one run.

The Deacons again got four runs in the start of the seventh inning and the Seminoles would have to wait until the bottom of the eighth inning before getting three runs – including two off of a double by Mat Nelson – that cut the deficit back down before Elijah Cabell, representing the tying run, struck out to end that threat.

FSU baseball now has won nine of their last 11 games after a span where they went 6-12 the previous games before. With a record of 29-15 at this point, the Seminoles have the week off before heading back inside DHS on Friday to open their final home ACC series of the season when they host the Pitt Panthers.
