FSU Football: Where does Brian Burns rank entering start of NFL Draft?
By Jason Parker
FSU football knows that Brian Burns is more than likely going to be taken in night one, but where does he rank among the top 32 players entering Thursday?
In just a mater of hours, the FSU football world will more than likely be cheering when defensive end will climb up on the stage in Nashville and take the jersey for whatever team picks him in the first round – as the star with the Seminoles is all but assured that he will be picked in the first round by a certain team.
From Cleveland to New England and Miami to Seattle, Burns could go to at least a dozen places in the first round depending on which team wants him to carry over the talent he did from his time with the Seminoles – including double digit sacks in two of his three seasons -onto whatever NFL team he is playing for.
Burns also could find himself plummeting into the second round as the former FSU football star finds himself being sent to day two on several mock drafts, including ones saying that he doesn’t have enough moves yet to hit it big in the NFL.
Florida State Seminoles
In a recent ranking by NFL.com of the top 100 players entering the draft stating Thursday, Burns found himself ranked No. 27 out of all the players evaluated.
"As a pass rusher, he has an explosive get-off and the ability to bend/wrap at the top of his rush. However, he doesn’t have any snap once engaged and fails to convert speed to power. Overall, Burns needs to get stronger, but his upside is sky high because of his length and speed."
Burns is the next great former FSU football star who is going to make it in the National Football League, with the potential to either be a second day pick who is going to shine at the next level or someone picked in the top 10 and is going to end up someday working on his speech for his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
When it comes to the issues at question, Burns is going to work on his ability to get around the offensive line and push through to get to the backfield. After gaining nearly 25 pounds but keeping his speed, Burns has the potential to be an All-Pro defensive end or EDGE linebacker in the coming seasons.
Whether he is the next former FSU football star taken in the top 10 or he’s picked in day two, fans of the Seminoles will cheer when they hear Burns’ name called out.
