Former FSU Football running back pokes fun at cold weather NFL games
By Jason Parker
FSU football alum Chris Thompson is a Florida native and is not exactly going to be all that excited with the way the schedule plays out for him this year.
For the FSU football team, there aren’t all that many times where the Seminoles have to bundle up and deal with a cold weather game. Aside from the occasional game at Boston College that happens to be scheduled for November, like it is this season, the Noles mostly get lucky about not having to see their own breath.
It tends to be something that the players in garnet and gold like since a vast majority of them are from the Sunshine State or a more southern location that doesn’t exactly know what snow is like and temperatures getting below the freezing mark – but once they get into the NFL, it’s a whole other story.
With locations like Buffalo, Chicago, Green Bay and Pittsburgh all playing in outdoor stadiums among others, FSU football alums in the NFL have to get used to the cold real quick if they want to keep earning that pro football paycheck.
One of those players is Washington running back Chris Thompson. As a native of the area east of Tallahassee, Thompson grew up with cooler weather at time and a cold snap here and there – but nothing like he will see thanks to the NFL schedule makers this season.
Shortly after the schedules were released on Wednesday night, Thompson took to Twitter and had some fun with where those in charge of making the slate sent his team during the second half of the season:
At this rate, Thompson is going to play in some cold weather games even when he is playing at home – but yeah, Green Bay in December is not a nice place to be for a Florida native and FSU football alum – just like I’m sure the Miami Dolphins aren’t all that excited about having to play in Cleveland later in the season.
While with FSU football, Thompson had a few cold weather games at Maryland in 2010 and 2012, at Boston College in 2011 and at Virginia Tech in 2012 – but even that is still not the same as middle of nowhere Wisconsin just two weeks before Christmas.
