FSU Softball: Meghan King selected in third round by Cleveland Comets
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball pitching ace Meghan King has dominated opponents since arriving in Tallahassee. She will now have the opportunity to play professional softball.
FSU softball broke through last season with its first national championship with pitching ace Meghan King being a large part of that success.
She was 4-0 in the Women’s College World Series posting an ERA of 0.20 over 34.1 innings pitched.
King was named to the WCWS All-Tournament team and has been named to the ACC First Team three times.
She was selected No. 11 overall by the Cleveland Comets as the first pick in the third round.
The National Pro Fastpitch Association consists of six teams with former FSU softball players on a couple of teams:
- Kaleigh Rafter-Canadian Wild
- Alex Powers-USSSA Pride
- Jessica Burroughs-USSSA Pride
- Jessie Warren-USSSA Pride
FSU softball coach Lonni Alameda coached the USSSA Pride team in 2016-17. King is (20-5) this season with a 1.69 ERA. She has 13 complete games with 157 strikeouts in just 136.2 innings pitched with two saves.
Batters are hitting just .191 against her and she notched her 600th career strikeout while pitching a gem in a losing effort against North Carolina Monday night.
FSU dropped and ACC series for just the second time this season and will look to rebound against rival Florida Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in a game that’s already sold out.
The gates will open at 6 p.m ET as the Noles will look to sweep the Gators for the season.
