Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

There is going to come a time where the FSU baseball team is going to actually have to play a game away from Dick Howser Stadium during the 2019 season – but it isn’t going to be for a little while longer after the Seminoles experienced yet another weather cancellation of a midweek game.

With that, the Noles will be back in Tallahassee against a team this weekend who has started pretty hot this season and would love nothing more than to play the rude guest after already taking care of business over the past week and a half against another team that played right down the street from the Noles.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the first time in program history, FSU baseball took the field against the fightin’ Penguins of Youngstown State University for a three game set that was reduced down to two days due to weather fears in Tallahassee – a growing trend with the 2019 Seminoles.

In the Friday opener, the Penguins were on top for the first part of the game before the Seminoles tied it on a Drew Mendoza two run homer in the sixth and a Nander De Sedas two run homer in the eighth to give the Noles a 4-2 victory.

Saturday’s first game was over rather quickly as FSU baseball scored seven runs in the first inning and didn’t stop as they coasted to a 24-2 victory. Game two between the teams saw YSU again jump out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first, before the Seminoles small balled their way back into the game and took the series sweep with a 7-4 victory.

Tuesday, the Seminoles were scheduled to play in Tampa for a one game meeting with the USF Bulls – but once again, Mother Nature doesn’t like it when the Noles play away from Dick Howser Stadium and the game was cancelled.

Opponent Preview

This weekend, the Seminoles will welcome a Mercer Bears team that they have met dozens of times dating back to the inaugural season of FSU baseball all the way back in 1948. This season, the Bears come into the weekend with an 8-1 record that includes midweek wins over FAMU and a weekend series sweep against Alabama A&M.

Interesting Fact

With the two rainouts that have taken out road games against Jacksonville and USF, the Seminoles will now play the first 14 games of their season at home before the next scheduled road game on March 12th at the rival Florida Gators.

That ties the second most number of consecutive home games under head coach Mike Martin with the 1982 season, Martin’s third with the Noles, and one behind the record of 15 straight home games to start the 2013 season. That year, FSU baseball won all 15 home games and their road debut at Florida.
