Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

After a time where Mother Nature decided to have a little fun with the FSU baseball schedule, the Seminoles were finally able to take the field this past weekend – and they did not forget their bats in a series that was condensed in days, but not in the amount of runs the Noles put on the board.

It wasn’t even that the Seminoles scored run after run after run, but head coach Mike Martin’s team found themselves having to again come back from an early deficit several times – something they know they are going to have to deal with more often as the season goes on.

Now, FSU baseball heads back on the road looking to actually play their first scheduled game away from Dick Howser Stadium this season. Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the first time in program history, FSU baseball took the field against the fightin’ Penguins of Youngstown State University for a three game set that was reduced down to two days due to weather fears in Tallahassee expected on Sunday.

In the Friday opener, the Penguins were on top for the first part of the game after a two run first inning before the Seminoles tied it on a Drew Mendoza two run homer in the sixth and a Nander De Sedas two run homer in the eighth to give the Noles a 4-2 victory.

Saturday’s first game was over rather quickly as FSU baseball scored seven runs in the first inning and didn’t stop – including a nine run sixth inning – as they coasted to a 24-2 victory. Robby Martin led the way with six RBIs on the night while Elijah Cabell added five RBIs.

Game two between the teams saw YSU again jump out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first, before the Seminoles small balled their way back into the game and took the series sweep with a 7-4 victory.

Opponent Preview

The Seminoles will head down to Tampa on Tuesday for a single game against the USF Bulls. At 3-4 on the season, South Florida was swept this past weekend when they went on the road to play North Carolina – just days after they upset the fifth ranked Florida Gators inside of USF Baseball Stadium.

Interesting Fact

While FSU Baseball and the Bulls have a long history dating back to USF’s first season of baseball back in 1966 (88 total meetings with the Noles holding a 72-16 advantage), the teams have just started to get back to playing one another on a regular basis.

Tuesday’s game will be just the 17th meeting over the last 30 seasons, with three of those coming in the NCAA Tournament. Over the series history, over half of the Bulls’ wins (nine) have come when the teams meet in Tampa.
