Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.
For the final time, the FSU baseball team will be led into action to start the season by the man who will get his jersey retired one day. For the last 39 seasons, Mike Martin has been involved in turning the Seminoles into not just a power in the state or in this region of the country, but one of the top names in all of college baseball.
Entering year 40 in the dugout for the Noles, Martin knows that he will leave the game as the winningest head coach of all time – and barring a major disaster this season, could get to 2,000 career wins before the middle of March – but also knows the monkey on his back of not winning a national title yet still hangs over his career.
To get back to Omaha for a 23rd time in program history, the Noles will face a schedule that again will test them – and it all starts with four games at home against a team they know about from trips to the CWS over three decades ago.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and their foes during this week of action.
The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field
The 2018 season for the FSU baseball team started out perfect with 14 straight wins and were highlighted by series wins over CWS participant North Carolina and hated rival Miami but also peppered with series losses to teams like Wake Forest, Georiga Tech and Clemson – a series in which Martin became the winningest coach with a extra innings victory in the opener.
For the second straight season, the Seminoles brought home the ACC tournament title by beating three straight ranked teams including Louisville for the 11-8 victory in the title game. Those would be the last two wins of the season as the Noles lost their regional opener to Samford and were eliminated the following day on a walk-off homer by Mississippi State to finish with a 43-19 record.
Opponent Preview
The Maine Black Bears come into Dick Howser Stadium for a four game series looking to forget all about what was a rocky 2018 season. The men from the northeast finished the year with a 20-34 record that included a 2-2 record in the American East Tournament.
Both FSU baseball and Maine had mutual opponents last season, as the Black Bears took the opener of their series against Miami before losing the final two games as well as dropping a midweek game against Boston College.
Interesting Fact
All time, the Seminoles and Black Bears have met nine times with the Noles winning each one – their last meetings coming in a weekend series back in 2012. The two teams didn’t play each other, but were both participants in the 1986 College World Series, the fifth time Maine went to Omaha over a six-year period in the 1980s.
