FSU football held its junior day and hosted a few players from the 2019 class. I give my thoughts on how the entire weekend went.

FSU football hosted its final recruiting weekend prior to National Signing Day taking place on Wednesday, February 6th.

The Noles were looking to put the final touches on the 2019 class while turning its attention to 2020 and beyond.

Graduate transfer commit Ryan Roberts, defensive back commit Travis Jay, defensive back prospect Jay Ward and quarterback recruit John Rhys Plumlee all visited over the weekend.

Roberts and Jay are definitely going to sign with the Noles so it was all about Ward and Plumlee who are both quality players. It sounds like both visits went well.

Ward isn’t a must have due to the amount of quality defensive backs already in the class, but he’d be a solid addition if Nick Cross decides to go elsewhere.

Plumlee’s decision just got more interesting with the dismissal of Deondre Francois from the program Sunday. The Noles would like to take two quarterbacks and Plumlee and Lance LeGendre would be excellent additions.

Plumlee fits Kendal Briles’ offensive system almost perfectly and he’s interested in playing college baseball as he’s player talented enough to get drafted later this year.

The biggest news out of the weekend was the commitment of 2020 QB Jeff Sims who was a major target. This move puts the Noles in a great position with the 2020 recruiting class that also secured a commitment from four-star linebacker Stephen Dix Jr.

That puts the 2020 recruiting class at six commitments.

The other great thing is the coaching staff got a ton of elite talent to visit campus. There were great looking prospects from 2020 and 2021 on campus.

That tells me the 5-7 record last season didn’t tarnish things too much and players are interested in helping Willie Taggart change the culture of FSU football and get back to the top.

The key to it all will be how they perform on the field in 2019. If they can get to eight or nine wins and not get destroyed in the losses, the message of help us get back to the top will be much more appealing to the elite recruits needed to compete with top-tier programs.

All in all it was a great weekend for the Noles as it became clear elite recruits are still interested in what Willie Taggart is selling. Now just win on the field and things should be on the up and up for FSU football.
