FSU football is off to a hot start with its 2020 recruiting class. Willie Taggart lands his second commitment of the weekend.

Remember how I keep saying FSU football got off to a slow start with its 2019 recruiting cycle because Willie Taggart had to spend all his time salvaging the 2018 recruiting class?

I think it’s safe to say they’ve gotten off to a great start with 2020 after securing two commitments this weekend.

One of the best quarterbacks for 2020 pledged to the Noles Saturday in Jeff Sims. Four-star linebacker Stephen Dix Jr. committed to the Noles on Sunday.

These two commitments put the Noles at six commitments for 2020 and all of these players will be rated four-star or higher.

The news couldn’t have come at a better time with the announcement of Deondre Francois being dismissed from the team.

Admittedly, most FSU football fans seem to be happy that happened but the perception on the recruiting trail is FSU has momentum now despite national media viewing the Francois news as a negative.

Jeff Sims is already being vocal on social media for his recruiting class which is a welcome sign compared to what it got from Sam Howell when he was committed to FSU in 2019.

Thoughts

It’s a great get for Willie Taggart and company as linebacker was an area they were hoping to land one more player in 2019. Dix Jr. hails from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando which is also the  home of former Nole wide receiver Kenny Shaw.

He’s rated as the No. 20 outside linebacker and No. 270 ranked player overall in the the class of 2020. This makes two four-star linebackers (Keyshawn Greene being the other) committed to FSU for 2020.

He already holds offers from the likes of Florida, Clemson, Michigan, Louisville, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech among others.

This is outstanding work from linebacker coach Raymond Woodie Jr. and Harlon Barnett who were his primary recruiters.
