FSU recruiting did a good job of signing most of the 2019 commits during the early signing period. Most importantly, they got Akeem Dent signed and enrolled early.

FSU recruiting is heading into its huge weekend with about 10-12 recruits/commits expected to be on campus.

Willie Taggart and staff are looking to put the finishing touches on the 2019 recruiting class before turning its focus fully to 2020 and beyond.

One important aspect is not having to worry about locking up four-star defensive back Akeem Dent who they were able to sign early despite many thinking he’d never end up at Florida State.

Dent is considered the No. 50 overall player in the class by 247 Composite Rankings and the No. 7 cornerback and was just named as one of the top 50 early signees by Bleacher Report.

He checks in at No. 20 on that list despite no longer being considered a five-star player. I’m sure FSU recruitniks swear this happens every year with FSU commits and it seemingly does.

A five-star ranked player will commit to FSU and then somehow their recruiting ranking drops afterwards at some point. It happened with Jaiden Woodbey last recruiting cycle and Stanford Samuels III the year before that.

It likely happens with every school but because we pay attention mostly to FSU football it seems more glaring.

Dent has the tools to be an impact player as a true freshmen. That alone tells me all I need to know just as Woodbey proved by being named a Freshman All-American on a team that went 5-7.

What I don’t understand is how can a player be ranked as a five-star for 95 percent of his senior year and THEN drop in the rankings?

I understand players can show improvement year-to-year and go from a four-star TO a five-star. However, I think it’s ridiculous to drop a kid’s ranking if they suffer an injury(Stanford Samuels III) or don’t attend camps, etc.

Either way, it’s great to see Dent appear so high on this list despite his overall ranking dropping. The Noles got a good one here and it’ll pay off in 2019.
