FSU Football: Marvin Wilson getting early love for 2019 season

FSU football knows its youngsters will have to dominate for them to bounce back next season, and one is getting plenty of press with months to go.

When Marvin Wilson signed with the FSU football team in February of 2017, there was little doubt from people that the five star defensive tackle – who was the sixth rated player in the entire country that year – was going to be quite the star for the Seminoles when he got a chance to get into the lineup.

After a freshman season that saw him finish with just seven tackles and a knee injury that sidelined him for much of the spring and into last fall, Wilson balled out when he got on the field and finished the year with 41 tackles along with three and a half sacks – with his best game coming in a six tackle, two sack showing against rival Miami.

Now, as Wilson gets ready for his junior season, the FSU football star is getting plenty of attention even with just over seven months before the Seminoles will take the field for their opener against Boise State in Jacksonville.

In recent days, ESPN.com has put him on their list of way too early preseason All-American players for the 2019 season while Athlon Sports listed Wilson as one of the top 30 breakout players for the upcoming season.

"Athlon SportsWith Brian Burns leaving Tallahassee to go to the NFL and Demarcus Christmas out of eligibility, the Seminoles will be counting on Wilson to dominate in the trenches next season. The former five-star recruit is primed for a breakout interior on the interior of Florida State’s front."

When Wilson arrived from the Houston, Texas area nearly two years ago, it was with fanfare that can usually be great or devastating for a player considering how they deal with such things. It doesn’t help when former FSU players predict you will be a first round draft pick midway through your sophomore season.

Still, Wilson showed flashes of brilliance last season and will clearly be in the leadership role for the interior line this season – and with his size and athletic abilities, there will be few teams on the schedule who will be able to stop him with consistency if he is playing at the level FSU football coaches know he can.

This coming season, the Seminoles will face four teams who finished in the top 40 of the FBS in rushing offense last season – meaning Wilson’s ability will be needed more than ever to help get the Noles back to a winning record.
