FSU football needed some momentum as a program and has seemed to gather some in the past week. FSU fans react to the hire of Ron Dugans.

FSU football has been a holding pattern as a program the past month or so. However, slowly but surely Willie Taggart seems to be aligning things the way he wants.

First it was five-star cornerback commit Akeem Dent unexpectedly signing and enrolling early this spring.

Shortly thereafter, another prized recruit in four-star cornerback commit Travis Jay shut down his recruitment and announced he’d be signing with the Noles.

Next, news finally broke that former Noles wide receiver Ron Dugans would be joining the FSU staff as the wide receiver coach.

It was a move that was thought to be in the works for a long time, but it was finally announced Sunday afternoon.

It’s a great hire and FSU fans are happy with the move despite Dugans declining to come to FSU last year when Willie Taggart was looking to fill his staff initially.

Thoughts

As you can see the fans are hyped that Dugans has come home. There’s a reason Willie Taggart wanted Ron Dugans on his staff when he first got the FSU football job.

He’s a proven coach and recruiter that was a player at FSU when they were on top of the world and understands what it means to wear the garnet and gold.

Another positive is he’s still on Miami’s payroll since he wasn’t retained after Miami’s head coach Manny Diaz decided to go another direction.

He also was on Willie Taggart’s staff when he was the head coach at South Florida, so there will be no feeling out period as Dugans will know exactly what’s expected in Tallahassee.

It’s not exactly clear what this means for David Kelly who was the wide receiver’s coach this past year. Kelly will remain on staff and is a valuable member of the team so either way Willie Taggart has upgraded the staff on the offensive side of the ball.
