FSU recruiting hasn’t had a ton of great news since top cornerback Akeem Dent signed and enrolled early. The Noles got good news Friday.

FSU recruiting is holding steady with the No. 17 overall class for 2019 with 19 commitments. The Noles signed 15 players in the early signing period with four of its best players unsigned.

One of those players was four-star cornerback Travis Jay who officially announced he’s shutting his recruitment down and intends to sign with FSU next month.

Jay was always considered a commit that was solid, but things aren’t final until a player says so(and even then it’s not the case with some players).

He had visits planned to visit Tennessee and Florida prior to visiting the Noles on January 25th, but those visits elsewhere are no longer happening.

Thoughts

This is huge for the Noles and gives FSU recruiting another blue chip recruit that will be in the fold now of those four that remained unsigned.

Jay is part of a defensive backs class for FSU that if all sign will arguably be the best in the nation. The news comes at a time when the Noles needed something positive to happen on the recruiting trails.

The staff has done a solid job of getting Akeem Dent signed and enrolled early and now getting Jay to shut things down.

It also shows the staff are recruiting guys that really want to be Noles and while helping this program get back to what it used to be.

Hopefully this will give Willie Taggart some momentum on the recruiting trails with a huge recruiting weekend coming up on January 25th.

It should also give safety commit Nick Cross something to ponder regarding shutting things down as he is another player the Noles really need to keep in this class.

Good job by the staff and for Jay being open to shutting things down because he realizes any uncertainty wasn’t helping the program overall.
