FSU football has had plenty of attention focused on the quarterback spot in recent days, but could news be coming during the February signing day?

In the same day it was reported that Tate Martell was transferring to Miami and Jalen Hurts was transferring to Oklahoma, news broke that FSU football James Blackman was thinking about entering the transfer portal. Mind you, merely entering the transfer portal does not mean he will transfer, but it does mean it’s a possibility and other schools can contact him.

That would leave the Seminoles with Deondre Francois and Jordan Travis, who likely will have to redshirt this season if he can’t get a hardship wavier, and a very important signing day upcoming. With the exception of Travis, none of the quarterbacks being talked about on our roster were head coach Willie Taggart’s recruits.

He has not had the chance to do what he did with Quentin Flowers at USF, but make no mistake when it comes to the recruiting trail, FSU football is trying to give him one. Coaches tend to have an eye for the quarterback they want, just as soccer coaches do goalies, and baseball coaches do pitchers.

Additionally, just because FSU did not land one of the transfer quarterbacks that were highly sought-after does not mean they have not been busy trying to recruit a quarterback.

It was reported that Coach Kendal Briles met with four-star quarterback and previous Kansas commit Lance Legendre, a New Orleans native, last week and will again with an in-home visit scheduled this week. His official visit to FSU is scheduled for January 25th.

FSU has worked very hard to recruit Legendre into the 2019 class, as the fifth ranked dual-threat quarterback in the class, according to Rivals and 247 Sports. Looking at video of Legendre on his Hudl profile he is quite impressive. He is quick out of the pocket, has a dynamic arm, and uses his feet to score any time he can. His feet are extremely quick.

Through nine games he had 745 pass yards with eight passing touchdowns, and 228 rushing yards with seven rushing touchdowns. That in and of itself defines dual-threat which the fast-paced offense under Briles will need. This would be a promising signee for the Noles to say the least.

The Noles are also looking at four-star quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, who is currently committed to the University of Georgia and will make his official visit to FSU on February 2nd. If Blackman does decide to transfer, one of these two would be key for the Noles.

Bottom line: with the fast-paced offense that FSU football now has, a dynamic dual-threat quarterback is more than a want, it’s a need.
