FSU basketball is off to a 11-1 start to the 2018-19 season and is currently projected as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

FSU basketball has one non-conference game remaining before entering the gauntlet we know as the ACC Conference.

They’ll entertain Winthrop on New Year’s Day before heading up north take on No. 4 Virginia. It won’t get any easier as they’ll host Miami and No. 1 Duke to close out a killer three game stretch in seven days.

FSU was projected as a No. 4 seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology projections. Their 11-1 start to the season is identical to last season before entering conference play.

However, the Noles dropped four of their first six conference games before finding their footing to finish 9-9 in conference play. They finished the season 23-12 overall and made the NCAA Tournament as a No. 9 seed.

Of course they’d go on to make the Elite 8 after knocking off No. 1 seed Xavier before losing to Michigan.

This 2018-19 team is similar to last year’s squad with plenty of depth and a balanced attack from a trio of scorer’s.

They’re averaging nearly the same amount of points as last year’s team and nearly the same percentage while holding opposing teams to nearly identical shooting percentage.

One of the differences from last year is improved free throw shooting and opposing team’s average points per game.

Those improvements could be enough to put the Noles in the upper tier of the ACC in 2019 as FSU basketball had several close losses last season.

In fact, they had six losses by seven points or less last season. This year’s team seems like they have the ability to turn those losses into wins because of doing the little things more consistently.

That’s likely why Lunardi has them projected as such as high seed at the moment. Of course we’ll learn more about this team as they progress through ACC play.

However, right now they are looking like they could be one of better FSU basketball teams in the Leonard Hamilton era.
