FSU Football: Why Kendal Briles hire worth the risk for Willie Taggart
By Kelvin Hunt
Offensive Familiarity
Out of all the offensive coordinators available to FSU, Briles is likely the best candidate to come in and hit the ground running regarding how Willie Taggart wants to do things.
Taggart likes an explosive offense that likes to score fast with tempo. Briles has that down pat and knows how to coordinate the offense to do just that.
There are certain differences in how Briles likes to establish the run compared to Taggart. However, that shouldn’t be an issue since Taggart is expected to give full control of the offense to Briles.
The terminology/concepts Briles will bring shouldn’t be much different than what the offensive players learned last year under Taggart and Walt Bell.
They have experience in trying to use tempo now compared to last year, so the learning curve shouldn’t be a steep either.
This is an absolute homerun hire for Willie Taggart. He has hired a guy to run the offense he borrowed from to create his own offense.
Briles has experience coordinating at a high level and is a good recruiter with the latter being a serious upgrade over the previous offensive coordinator.
