FSU basketball continues to win in non-conference play while being one of the most overlooked teams in the country.

No. 11 FSU basketball wasted no time jumping out in front of the Saint Louis Billikens Saturday afternoon in the Tuck Center.

The Noles were up 10 points after seven minutes of play and it was never closer than that the rest of the way.

Terrance Mann led all starters with 17 points and seven rebounds on 6 of 9 shooting. Trent Forrest had a strong game with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

David Nichols had a killer game off the bench and led all scorers with 19 points in 25 minutes on 7 of 11 shooting (4 of 7 from three-point land).

FSU basketball shot 55.4 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from three-point land while making 9 of 11 from the free throw line (81.8 percent).

The only two negatives from the game was FSU getting out rebounded and too many turnovers (20). The latter has been a constant theme this season.

FSU gave up 20 offensive rebounds with some of that being due to Saint Louis missing so many shots. However, that’s still too many second chance opportunities against

The Noles were outstanding defensively, holding Saint Louis to 30.2 percent shooting overall and 21.4 percent from beyond the arc. They forced 18 turnovers on 10 steals with everyone on the team getting playing time.

Phil Cofer looked good in is second game back with seven points on 3 of 6 shooting and was 1 of 1 from three-point land.

Thoughts

FSU basketball continues to dominate its non-conference schedule and has one remaining before jumping into ACC conference play.

They’ll host Winthrop on New Year’s Day at 1 p.m. ET before taking on Virginia, Miami and Duke to open ACC play.

Leonard Hamilton has done a good job of getting lots of players playing time and developing a solid rotation on one of the deepest teams in the nation.

The perception seems to be FSU basketball is being overlooked by most national writers even though they’re ranked No. 11. It’ll be interesting to see how FSU does once conference play begins.
