FSU soccer got just one goal on the day, but it was more than enough to bring home the program’s second title while beating their ACC rival.

It had the makings of a Hollywood ending – FSU soccer, a team who had lost four conference games in the middle of the season and looked like they might not make it this far, went on an eight game winning streak to lead them to the fourth national title game in program history. This time, it was against their hated conference foe whose campus was just 22 miles away.

Nonetheless, in front of a clearly pro North Carolina Tar Heels crowd in the city of Cary, the Lady Noles took the rubber match of the season series with their opponents and in the process won the program’s second national title with a 1-0 victory on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, FSU soccer finally got on the board in the 60th minute when Dallas Dorosy found the back of the net as the senior form Fort Lauderdale ended her college career on a high note with her seventh goal of the season.

The goal by Dorosy would be just enough for FSU soccer keeper Caroline Jeffers as the net minder who came in during the ACC tournament stopped all eight of North Carolina’s shots in the game including the two on goal to seal the shutout win.

The victory was the second one this season for FSU soccer against the Tar Heels in this stadium as the Lady Noles also won the ACC crown 3-2 in Cary – avenging a loss to North Carolina when the teams met in Tallahassee earlier in the year.

In the program’s 24 seasons, FSU soccer has gone to the NCAA tournament a total of 21 times and made it to the final round of four teams 10 of those times. The Lady Noles won in 2014 when the tournament was played in Boca Raton and during the 2018 tournament beat all three teams – Penn State, USC and Stanford – who won the title between those seasons.
