FSU Football Alums: Dalvin Cook to get full workload in primetime
By Jason Parker
Dalvin Cook will play in just his fourth game of the season this weekend, but the Minnesota Vikings back will be getting plenty of playing time.
For almost all FSU football fans, the clock has been ticking on when we were going to get a chance to see one of the best to play recently for the Seminoles – running back Dalvin Cook – living up to his potential during his current gig as the starting running back for the Minnesota Vikings.
Last season, Cook was doing great in his first three games and was on pace to be in the Rookie of The Year conversation when he tore his ACL in game number four and was done for the season. In 2018, Cook played three of the first four games of the season before missing the next four weeks with an injury.
Two weekends ago, Cook returned against that same Lions team and went for 89 yards on 10 carries – with 70 of that coming on one play – and added 20 more yards through the air in the Vikings’ win. After the bye week, it appears the team is ready to take the training wheels off.
For the first time this season, Dalvin Cook is not on the injury report and is going to get his full workload on Sunday night when the Vikings take on the Chicago Bears in front of the national television cameras of NBC Sports in a game for the NFC North lead.
"“I’m ready to go,” Cook said to ESPN.com. “We’re going to see if I’m 100 percent. My body, I feel great. So yeah, I’m there.”“Around this year last time I was on the couch watching my team compete, wishing I could be out here. Now I’m out here, I’ve got to take full advantage of it. I’m hype, I’m ready to go.”"
It will be amazing to see what Dalvin Cook can do when he gets unleashed. We saw glimpses of it last season before the injury and in the first game back this season – but after seeing what he did with the Seminoles, we’re spoiled and want to see a lot more of it early and often.
It won’t be easy for Cook or any Vikings running back as they face a run defense in the Bears that is the second best in the league and has given up less than 85 rushing yards a game. Cook can only help a Vikings rush offense that is ranked 28th in the NFL this season – with only Tampa Bay, Atlanta, the New York Giants and Arizona having rushed for less yards.
