Field Position

I mentioned field position and the importance of it particularly when you have an offensive that struggles to move the ball.

The difference in starting at your own 25 or your own 10 or 15 yard line can change a football game in a hurry.

The first couple possessions of the NC State game are prime examples of why a team like FSU football should fair catch every kickoff.

FSU received the ball and returned it 12 yards and got a holding penalty that had the Noles starting their drive on their own three yard line.

If he had fair caught the ball the penalty wouldn’t have happened and at least FSU would have avoided the terrible field position.

What’s been happening is FSU has started inside their own 20 yard line and gone three and out on offense which usually meant the opposing team would receive the punt with excellent field position.

Over the course of a game that puts immense stress on the FSU defense and gives the opposing offense a greater probability of scoring points.

If the Noles go three and out from the 25, at least that will usually result in the opposing offense starting from their own 30 yard line or so.
