FSU Football: 3 takeaways from ‘Noles win over Louisville
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU Defense Was Good But Lucky
The Louisville Cardinals had looked like utter garbage on offense in its four previous games, but the FSU defense tried it’s best to make them look like Lamar Jackson was still there early on.
Truth be told, if Jackson was still there the Cardinals probably would have won this game going away because Louisville’s quarterback left A LOT of plays on the field.
That’s not to say the FSU defense played absolutely terrible. They didn’t, in particular in the second half where all they surrendered was a field goal in the third quarter.
The Cardinals came knocking a number of times but either shot themselves in the foot with wide receiver drops or just plain terrible passes by the quarterback.
FSU football allowed 5.07 yard per play and the Cardinals converted third downs 52.6 percent of the time. However, the biggest difference in the game was the defense “securing the bag” three times.
They also had four sacks and seven tackles for loss. The most important thing is their effort in the second half after playing 46 snaps in the first half alone.
There are some things that need to be fixed with the linebackers and safeties, but overall it was a solid effort with a lot of big hits at times in the game to show some semblance of physicality.
