FSU football returned a number of experienced players at different positions, but a ton of young players are already seeing playing time in 2018.

When Willie Taggart became head coach of FSU football in December one of the things he preached was accountability and the best players playing.

Accountability is something that takes time to instill among a team of so many players, but one thing that stands out is the attitude of the younger players.

Guess what? There are already a ton of younger players playing significant snaps for FSU football in 2018.

Here’s a list of young players I’ve noticed on the field and their classification:

  • Jaiden Woodbey (Defensive Back/Linebacker)-Freshman
  • Anthony Grant(Special Teams)-Freshman
  • Asante Samuel (Defensive Back)-Freshman
  • A.J. Lytton (Defensive Back)-Freshman
  • Camren McDonald (Special Teams)-Freshman
  • Robert Cooper (Defensive Line)-Freshman
  • DeCalon Brooks (Linebacker)-Freshman
  • Tre’Shaun Harrison (Wide Receiver)-Freshman
  • Isaiah Bolden (Defensive Back/Special Teams)-Freshman
  • Corey Durden (Defensive Line)-Redshirt Freshman
  • Tamorrion Terry (Wide Receiver)-Redshirt Freshman
  • Brady Scott-(Offensive Line)-Redshirt Freshman

That’s not counting the number of sophomore’s playing significant minutes as well:

  • Cam Akers
  • Tre McKitty
  • Marvin Wilson
  • Joshua Kaindoh
  • Janarius Robinson
  • Stanford Samuels
  • Cyrus Fagan
  • Leonard Warner
  • D.J. Matthews
  • Hamsah Nasirildeen
  • Mike Arnold

That’s 23 players that are either sophomores, redshirt freshmen or true freshmen playing significant minutes through the first four games.

Not to mention there are a number of true freshmen that haven’t seen the field yet that could be impact players in the future.

Thoughts

This tells you a few things already. One, there’s a ridiculous amount of young talent on this team. Secondly, we’re already beginning to see younger players take snaps from some upperclassmen as Willie Taggart works to change the culture of the program.

There seems to be a different type of fire and competitive drive in the younger players. It’s been evident in their reaction to plays being made, their effort and competitive drive.

The great thing about so many playing early is they’ll be forged by fire by the time the Noles get deep into ACC play.
