FSU Football: Will offense show any signs of life against Northern Illinois?
By Kelvin Hunt
The FSU football offense is one of the worst in the nation and will be tested again Saturday afternoon against Northern Illinois.
FSU football fans want and need to see a spark of some sort from this ‘Noles offense that’s looked completely inept through three games.
The concerning part is they were expected to score a lot of points in two of those three which obviously didn’t happen. Now they face a Northern Illinois defense that finished 2017 ranked No. 14 according to S&P.
Obviously the objective is to score points offensively, but I’m more concerned about the sheer ability to move the ball and consistently put drives together.
In fact, the inability to do that against Syracuse caused the FSU defense to tire after playing 45 snaps in the first half.
Not to mention the psychological effect of knowing the FSU offense was basically going to go three and out every possession.
The defense is good enough to keep the Noles in games I think, but the question is will the offense improve enough to help balance things?
I don’t care how good the defense is, conflict will arise if they go out there every game and ball out with the offense continuing to look like it has.
It’s like if you have a brother and a sister and all of you are assigned a chore with the promise you all get a treat once all the chores are done.
However, nobody gets a treat if all of the chores are not complete. Those that complete the chore are going to be highly upset with those that caused them not to be able to get the treat right?
I need to see positive yardage on first down along with third and manageable distance. Also, I need to see a QB that isn’t on the ground every other play.
If the offense can accomplish those things that should be enough to notch a win for the Noles as the NIU offense is terrible as well.
