FSU Football fans should get behind Noles or jump off bandwagon now

FSU football is in a rough situation for the second straight season, and some members of the fan base are showing their true colors with their behavior.

For the second straight season, the FSU football team has started off the year 1-2 through their first three games with an embarrassing showing in the opening game along with a disappointing loss to an ACC Atlantic Division foe and a fourth quarter comeback being the only thing keeping the Seminoles from being winless at this point.

However, this season is different in the eyes of some fans who somehow think this situation is worse and have gone as far as to star campaigns to ask for a buyout of head coach Willie Taggart just a quarter of the way through his first season – something the previous head coach didn’t have to deal with last season (just calls for his assistants to be removed) or his first year when he got mutilated at Oklahoma despite running the same offense the Noles had the previous three years.

For some reason, a section of the FSU football fan base has become extremely vocal about the short leash and lack of time they are willing to give to Taggart. They are pointing to Saturday’s loss to Syracuse as an inexcusable embarrassment while casually forgetting what took place last year at Boston College or the season before at Louisville.

I’m not saying fans of the Seminoles shouldn’t be mad as hell about what’s going on (trust me, I’m there too), but if you are going to become like other programs and be uneducated fans I have a simple message: leave the FSU football fanbase.

I know that I can’t be the one to decide who roots for the Seminoles and who says stupid things each week, but the act has grown tired already of fans willing to give our former coach more of a benefit of the doubt when he practically quit on the team last season than a man who has literally coached ONE QUARTER OF A SEASON!

Some will say the love for the Seminoles is why they are against what Taggart is doing and the results so far – which would be a valid argument, except for the same venom not being released last season when the Seminoles were 1-3 and later 2-5.

There were no online campaigns for the firing of our former coach – yes, plenty of whining in online forums, but also plenty of people giving the same tired line about ‘trust the process’. However, the process under Taggart is not being given anywhere near the same chance for what could be plenty of reasons.

Is 10 points in the first two FBS games disgusting for the Seminoles? Yes, no question. Is some of this because of hype from both inside and outside of Tallahassee (including media outlets like Chop Chat) expecting instant results? I would be willing to bet.

The bottom line is simple: things are going to improve in Tallahassee with the FSU football program. Heck, it may be this season and the Seminoles may finish the year with eight or nine wins when it’s all said and done – none of us know this after a three game sample.

But if you are truly a supporter of the Noles, you stick behind this team no matter what. Don’t act spoiled just because we haven’t had a losing season in over four decades – be disappointed but still represent the garnet and gold no matter what. If you can’t do that, leave the fan base now…but don’t come back when the times are good.
