Some FSU football fans are having a hard time adjusting to the new direction of the program and the changing environment around the Seminoles.
Dear segment of longtime FSU football fans,
Well, we finally got our first win of the season last weekend – it wasn’t easy, but the Seminoles were able to survive against the Samford Bulldogs after getting beaten down like they stole something in the opener against Virginia Tech.
After that loss to the Hokies, there was plenty of outrage from some Noles fans about what took place – those who expected the same instant success that seemed to come easy during the era of Bobby Bowden and the middle of the last coach’s era.
I know there are some of you that have not been a fan of the new direction of the program – whether it is the stuff like what music is played before the games to the idea that another uniform is worn other than the garnet and gold combo that we all have gotten used to.
To that, I have three words for you: get over it.
If you are a true supporter of the FSU football, you stick with this team no matter what. You don’t immediately prepare to give up on the Seminoles and the people running the program just because you are spoiled over what took place two and three decades before.
You think it’s the newer hip hop music (instead of the Marching Chiefs playing the same five songs each game outside of the War Chant and the fight song) or the choice to wear all black uniforms in the opener that is the problem with this year’s team? Remind me how last year went with hardly any music and the traditional uniforms – I’ll wait.
I’m not saying that we all shouldn’t be upset with what has taken place in the first two weeks – after all the preseason hype, to be just 1-1 and be lucky at this point to have that record is not something to brag about and must be fixed quickly.
But with that, why is Willie Taggart being given less of the benefit of the doubt than his predecessor? I get that there are plenty of FSU football fans still living in the past from the dynasty era, but I don’t remember half the flack being given to the previous coach after he defeated Samford in the 2010 opener before being humiliated by 37 points against Oklahoma.
There is a new atmosphere with the Seminoles and the program – and as much as you may not want change to take place, it’s time to embrace it or find someone else to root for.
Sincerely,
FSU football fans who support the Seminoles no matter what.
