By Kelvin Hunt
Derwin James wasted no time in announcing his presence against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
The Los Angeles Chargers felt like they got a steal when Derwin James fell to them with the No.17 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
By all accounts they were correct with James having an outstanding training camp and looking like he’ll be the impact player they thought he was coming out of FSU.
James played in the first two preseason games, amassing five tackles in the first two games. The third preseason game is when starters traditionally see the most action.
It’s when Derwin James got his first preseason start and wasted no time in announcing his presence with an interception off future Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees.

Precisely.
Thoughts
As you can see the fans on Twitter were impressed with the play of James. Listen, as a FSU football site we already know what Derwin James is capable of and that was with sub par coaching.
Who knows what he’ll be able to accomplish in the NFL with a great defensive coordinator like Gus Bradley calling the defense.
James finished the game with three overall tackles and the interception in what is the beginning of a great NFL career if he can stay away from injuries.
James has the ability to play safety and linebacker while being physical enough to be effective against the run. He was always among the team leaders in tackles at FSU and should do more of the same at the next level.
He’s just another reason “DBU” title resides in Tallahassee.
