FSU Football: Website expects national title for Noles within five seasons
By Jason Parker
FSU football will be celebrating the anniversary of several national title teams, but one website says it might not be long before they win another.
When the FSU football team kicks off the 2018 season in less than three weeks, it will come as the Seminoles celebrate the silver anniversary of the first national championship in program history as well as the fifth anniversary of the most recent title – the third in program history won during the 2013 season.
According to one website, it won’t be long before the Noles are going to be celebrating the fourth national title to make its way to the Tallahassee campus.
Recently, College Football News broke down the expecations for the number of wins each new coach of a FBS program will have in the upcoming season and over the next five seasons as well. When it came time for FSU football coach Willie Taggart, the site thinks the Seminoles will be much better than in 2017 and the future will be a bright one.
"Realistic Expectations In Year One: At least nine wins, winning two of the three games against Clemson, Miami and Florida, and – at worst – a second-place finish in the ACC Atlantic.Realistic Expectations Over Next Five Years: Five bowl games in five seasons, three Atlantic titles, two ACC championships, two College Football Playoff appearances, one national title. Welcome to Florida State."
It should be pointed out that Taggart was the only one of the new coaches where a national title was in the expectations listing over the next five seasons – meaning FSU football could be among current power programs like Alabama, Clemson and others to win a natty.
Personally, I’m a little hesitant not because I don’t have faith in Taggart or my alma mater but because we need to see a season before going all in on a future title. If the Seminoles are 9-3 or better this season, I think it’s fair game – another season of 7-5 or worse could pump those breaks.
Baring a miracle all FSU football fans would love, a national title won’t come this season. 2019 might not be out of play with a schedule that just has Florida, Boise State, Louisiana Monroe and Virginia among the non regular teams (ACC Atlantic and Miami). 2020 has UF, West Virginia, Boise State for the moment and Pittsburgh – but would be cool since the title game is in South Florida.
2021 sees Notre Dame, UF and North Carolina joining the party while 2022 now starts with LSU in New Orleans along with UF and Georgia Tech at this point – so there are plenty of options for FSU football to bring home that fourth title.
