Why 2013 FSU Football would beat every BCS, Playoff champion
By Jason Parker
From the first game of the 2013 season, you could tell that this FSU football team might be a little better than the experts thought – remember, the Seminoles were picked to finished behind the Clemson Tigers in the preseason media vote for who would win the ACC’s Atlantic Division (but more on those Tigers in a moment).
Over the course of the season, the Seminoles would allow an opponent to score 17 points or more just three times – Boston College (34), N.C. State (17) and Auburn (31). Only twice did an opponent get within 14 points of the Noles (Boston College and Auburn) while the Seminoles only scored less than 41 points the entire season on two occasions (Florida and Auburn).
When the year was done, the Noles finished with the fourth best offense in the FBS that season and the seventh best defense – putting the Seminoles in the elite company of being one of just five teams over the last 31 seasons to have both units in the top seven during their title season (1988 Notre Dame, 1993 FSU football along with 1994 and 1999 Nebraska).
We all saw what the Seminoles did over that span, and while it sometimes can be hard to compare teams of different eras, it’s easy to see when you look at the numbers why the Noles would have beaten the three teams ranked ahead of them by the Worldwide Leader.
